WM Sr. Manager, Analytics and Strategy in Houston, Texas

Location: This is a hybrid position with an opportunity to work from home most Mondays and Fridays. Typically, will report to Corporate office in Houston, Tuesday through Thursday.

Travel: Current travel needs are up to once or twice per month. Must be able to travel more often, if business dictates.

Preferred Skills, Experience and Licenses: Project management, capital program management; experience managing people; demonstrated ability to articulate business problems and present business cases; expert level Excel skills for data analytics and mathematical modeling; valid driver's license.

I. Job Summary

Recognized across the organization for business expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique or complex business problem and the development of solutions for new business opportunities. Provides the highest level of business expertise while conducting highly complex business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefit analyses in an effort to align business solutions with the company strategy and initiatives. This position requires a strong change agent with the ability to influence others across the Company to adopt newly re-engineered processes into WM business units. The Sr. Manager of Fleet Analytics and Strategy will have overall responsibility for how we procure, maintain, and, eventually, dispose of our fleet assets. By leveraging strong understanding of fleet maintenance, analytical capabilities, and strategic thinking, the Sr. Manager of Fleet Analytics and Strategy will be integral in transforming our fleet and maintenance practices, driving down costs and increasing efficiency and effectiveness.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops strategies and best practices to manage the total life cycle of Fleet assets; (standard specifications / maintenance standards / network design / asset assignment / asset disposal).

  • Develops vehicle maintenance strategies and replacement capital plans including Total Cost of Ownership models.

  • Develops a fleet electrification strategy that aligns with WM’s sustainability objectives and various federal and state regulatory requirements.

  • Redesigns the maintenance facility network; effort includes the evaluation of light vs. heavy repair facilities and standards for insourced and outsourced maintenance.

  • Develops and implements a strategy regarding parts procurement and consumption to minimize inventory, maximize working capital and limit obsolescence.

  • Acts as execution arm of transformation to design, prototype, refine and scale core enterprise programs and ultimately transition them back to our steady state organization as institutionalized business solutions.

  • Works with senior management, various board and steering committees, functional leaders and individual team leaders by contributing strategic vision and integrating a broad range of ideas regarding business solutions development.

  • Oversees the conception, implementation, and analysis of multiple enterprise solutions projects with a large scope and complexity in an environment for business change.

  • Works at the top business contributor level of business and/or process systems analysis while considering the business implications to the current and future business environment.

  • Responsible for deliverables, cost, schedule and quality of one or more enterprise solutions projects.

  • Plans projects, allocates and directs staff and other resources to accomplish project tasks and maintain control over the project(s).

  • Works with internal and external customers, suppliers and other partners to resolve problems, respond to suggestions for improvement and enhancements, test, refine and institutionalize solutions.

  • Drives the project(s) and the organization toward achieving business results.

  • Identifies and ensures continuous development, improvement and implementation of WM key business processes

  • Focuses on consistency and quality in the implementation of process improvements and is involved in the post-implementation verification.

  • Articulates business problems and presents business cases to executives and other leaders.

  • Evaluates changes in business for capital request; allocates capital to different areas for assets.

  • Other minor duties may be assigned.

III. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree; High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience required.

  • Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience preparing and managing budgets (in addition to education requirement) required.

IV. Work Environment and Essential Functions

Combination: This job operates in a mix between an office environment and plant/field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.
