WM Senior Director, Learning & Development in Houston, Texas

I. Job Summary

The Sr. Director, Learning and Development directs the implementation, delivery and evaluation of learning and leadership development programs and solutions across the organization based on identified needs. This position will work as a strategic partner with HR Leadership to support a learning and development roadmap in alignment with the business' short and long-term objectives and incorporating key principles of adult education.

Location –Houston Hybrid - reporting into the office Monday – Thursday (with flexibility) or candidates outside of the Houston area who are open to regular travel to the headquarters office.

II. Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Directs and oversees the Learning and Development Community of Excellence (COE) that works in conjunction with HR Business Partners to deliver exceptional training solutions to support business objectives. Focuses on delivering and measuring a positive impact and overall return on training investment dollars and managing within approved departmental budget.

  • Provides leadership and mentoring to learning and development team and direct reports. Sets expectations and effectively manages team contribution, performance and engagement within the team and with internal WM customers.

  • Forecasts and monitors Learning and Development budgets as appropriate.

  • Responsible for all learning and development capability within the enterprise and ensures appropriate resource availability to design, develop and deliver effective training solutions aligned with WM strategy.

  • Supports and promotes the alignment of learning with the organization’s strategic vision and values; understanding clearly how the organization must evolve, taking internal and external trends and influences into consideration.

  • Ensures utilization of technology to deliver the right learning, at the right time and in the right way.

  • Develops and oversee implementation of the overarching training and development strategy, in conjunction with CHRO.

  • Collaborates with Human Resources and other stakeholders on innovative staff educational experiences.

  • Collaborates with external partners to ensure that educational offerings are developed and launched successfully, with a goal of best-in-class education and leadership offerings.

  • Create and monitor key measures of success for all training programs (professional and technical) and solutions and puts in place plans for continuous improvement based on feedback mechanisms, testing, competency evaluation and ongoing analysis of key metrics.

III. Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) in Business, I/O Psychology, Organizational/HR Development, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four (4) years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience: Ten (10) or more years of experience leading a learning and development function with direct leadership of the team, budget, vendor, and stakeholder relationships (in addition to education requirement)

IV. Work Environment

Office: This job primarily operates in a professional office environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.
